Purchasing DVD Movies Online

At first glance it would appear that hiring a movie from an online rental firm would be preferable to purchasing it, but just consider what is involved with online rental firms. You are tied into a monthly payment, whether you want a movie or not, and once you have seen all the popular ones you find yourself with nothing but the older films.

Not only that, but when a new movie comes out you often have to wait ages in a queue before it is your turn to hire it. You can buy Inglourious Basterds online today - and the special edition with all the extras that you don’t get when you hire!

That said, you might still not be convinced, so let’s have a look at some of the reasons for you choosing the sensible way of purchasing DVD movies online.

     1. Choice
You have a marvelous choice of videos to choose from online DVD stores, and are not dependent on others not having rented out the movie of your choice. How often has this happened, when you are keen to watch a particular movie, especially a new release, and find that all the copies have been rented out? When you buy, you have no such problems and can generally get whatever you want.

     2. Convenience
Online DVD stores will provide you with a search box that can be used to search for your favorite genre, movie, actor or actress. Alternatively, you can choose from drop down lists of movie genres and get a complete view of what is available from the store. You have no more need to hunt round the displays or be disappointed after traveling to your offline DVD store.

     3. Information
Most online DVD stores will provide you with full impartial information on the movie, not just what is offered on the box. Many will allow you to read editorial reviews and perhaps reviews from others that have purchased the movie. You get much more information by purchasing DVD movies online than you would get by buying from a regular store.

     4. Price
Last, but not least, most online stores are cheaper than their offline equivalents: this is just as true of movies as it is with other goods. Unless you are lucky and find your particular movie at a discount price, you are going to save a few dollars by buying online, and that doesn’t include savings in transport to the store!

Given that purchasing DVD movies online makes more sense than from a regular offline store, why should you purchase rather than rent? Rental certainly has advantages in initial costs, but there are also benefits in buying:

     a) When you purchase you get a brand new DVD that has not been used by anybody else. You can be certain that it will not be scratched, and that it will be completely new and unused.

     b) You can watch your movie anytime you want, and not only for a limited period of time. Many people like to build a library of films and watch them whenever they feel like doing so. If you want to watch a hired movie again, then you have to pay again.

     c) You get the special editions when you buy, but not when you rent. You get the extras, such as alternative endings, interviews, how it was made and so on, and even deleted scenes. So you get more for your money. These have a good resale value.

     d) When you buy a movie it belongs to you, and you can do what you like with it - within copyright limits of course! You can lend it to friends and family, and if you have finished with it you can sell it. In fact, if you are lucky enough to have purchased a DVD movie online at a reasonably low price, as many are, you can sell it on eBay or Amazon for a price not far off your purchase price. In fact, some people have sold at a price that made the move cheaper for them to purchase than to rent!

The choice is yours: whether to buy or rent, and whether to buy offline or online. However, before making your mind up consider the relative benefits of each, and you might just join the growing number of people that are convinced that purchasing DVD movies online is the sensible and intelligent choice to make. It is better to own than to rent!
